Mitsuko Yagyu
Satoé’s Technical Director, MSc in Physiotherapy and Senior Instructor trainer of Pilates at SatoéLAB
Mitsuko Yagyu studied Physiotherapy (BSc) at Escola Superior de Saúde da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa, in Portugal (2012), and completed a Master’s in Physiotherapy with a Specialisation in Paediatrics at
University College London (2014).
While in England, she worked as a paediatric physiotherapist at NHS, which allowed her to interact with different communities and clinical contexts. She worked with children and young people with sports-related musculoskeletal injuries; and contacted with women that shared their experiences on the posture complications they felt after giving birth.
Thanks to a friend who’s a professional dancer, she discovered the world of Pilates – and was amazed by how this practice can help women improve their posture after having children. She specialised in the STOTT method, which consists of a contemporary approach to Pilates (based on anatomy and physiology).
Mitsuko returned to Portugal in 2018 with a desire to one day open a studio of her own, where she could offer a combination of different therapeutics to the local community. That same year, she worked as a physiotherapist for Companhia Nacional de Bailado (the Portuguese National Ballet).
Sports were not always a constant in her life – rather an acquired taste. Therefore, Mitsuko understands how hard starting a physical activity can be, which is why she likes to include visualisations that make sense to everyone in her classes.
In 2019, she created Satoé, a studio where she combines her knowledge as a paediatric physiotherapist, sports and Pilates specialist.
She has developed SatoéLAB to bring support to health professionals with interest to increase their knowledge in Pilates and how it can help therapeutically.
On some days, she can count on a very special assistant: Dude, her beloved doggo!
